Massages in Melbourne are abundant. The big, exciting city is full of day spas with long lists of deluxe treatments and therapies. On a recent trip, I decided to explore the options. Here is the list I created of the fabulous massages I found in the Melbourne region.
Therapeutic Stone Massage
During this classic day spa massage, hot stones with a welcoming warmth are placed on the body. The placement is strategic and designed to work the body’s tissue. Massaging the rocks around, knots will be worked out and toxins released. If there is a specific area of issue, this can be targeted and treated.
Exotic Coconut Scrub
The Balinese style Exotic Coconut Scrub is a truly indulgent therapy. To begin, a warmed coconut milk bath mixture is drizzled over the body. The exfoliating coconut scrub is then massaged over the skin, used to polish and nourish it. The scrub then also soothes your mind and senses for the ultimate relaxing experience.
True Unwind Massage
As the name describes, this full body oil massage is greatly relaxing. The oil used is a soothing mixture, designed to calm the mind and release tension in muscles. The mild to medium pressure used by the therapist in this massage stimulates a build up of endorphins in order to create feelings of tranquillity and happiness.
A true favourite, this massage is the ultimate pamper for mums to be. In order to truly comfort the patient, the massage is done on a soft futon. A sea of cushions also allows for the mum to be to relax in extreme comfort, and the changing contours of her body to be catered for. During the massage, specific pressure points of the pregnant body are targeted and oils that soothe and fade stretch marks are used.
Detoxifying Mineral Salt Scrub
The scrub used in this full body massage is delightfully aromatic. The salt works as an exfoliant and is used to detox the skin. It reduces the appearance of cellulite and nourishes with minerals. During the massage, there will be a strong cooling sensation on the skin due to the herbal ingredients included to aid the detoxification process. To complete the massage, body oil is applied to the skin for hydration.
Shirodhara with Shirobhyanga
If you suffer from headaches or migraines, sinus or scalp problems, this is the massage for you! It is a traditional Indian massage treatment that uses warm and spicy oils. Shirodhara is a form of Ayurveda therapy involving the pouring of liquid onto the forehead. Thus, in this massage, the oil is applied to the forehead in order to perform the Shirobhyanga (head massage). The massage consists of work to the scalp, neck and shoulders and intensely relaxes the body and mind.
Hahana Stone Massage
To begin this massage therapy treatment a warm and exotic blend of oils are applied to the body. Heated, volcanic stones that have been naturally smoothed by the power of flowing water over thousands of years are then used in firm, rhythmic massage strokes over the skin. During these massaging movements, the healing energies of the stones are released into the muscles to eliminate stress and tensions.
Purifying Back Treatment
Definitely designed to purify, this massaging back treatment detoxes your muscles, releases stress from your shoulders and cleanses your skin of any impurities. This includes excessive oil or acne on the upper back. To begin, a deeply purifying coconut and jojoba scrub is massaged over the skin. A clarifying masque to further draw impurities out of the skin is applied. Finally, an aromatherapy style massage is used to release knots and tension in the shoulders.
Muscle Melt Massage
Sometimes your body looses its sense of balance and calm. If this is you, you are in need of this massage! The Muscle Melt Massage is done by your therapist using
either light or moderate pressure and smooth, flowing massage strokes. By releasing tension from your muscles, your body can be realigned and a sense of balance restored.
By Ripple Massage Day Spa and Beauty, the Honey Massage is brought to you using Australian boutique honey harvested with 100 years of knowledge in the Numimbah Valley. For the purposes of the massage the honey is warmed and combined with nourishing oils. The honey itself is clarifying and antibacterial, allowing it to open pores and treat acne. It is also full of antioxidants that slow the signs of aging. The raw honey is also extremely moisturising, leaving skin extra smooth and complexion boosted.
The massages in this list are indulgent, pampering and all-round fabulous. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed discovering them! Differing in styles and techniques, there is something for everyone in the saturated Melbourne massage market.
The Ripple Melbourne Massage Story
We expanded to South East Queensland pretty rapidly, having a number of great therapists delivering Ripple massages and beauty services, and had our booking service run by a girl in Melbourne called Sarah.
Then the GFC hit. I flew down to Melbourne to chat to Sarah about what was coming up and jokingly said “We’ll have to open Ripple in Melbourne.” The next week, Sarah had lost all of her other clients and rang me…
“Were you serious?”, she asked.
“Serious about what?” I said.
“About opening Ripple in Melbourne?”
“Well not really, but lets do it, I think it will go well down there.”
And that is how Ripple expanded to Melbourne with our massage services, three months into the GFC and everyone around us telling us we were completely nuts. With Sarah’s help we expanded right through Melbourne and quickly into the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Daylesford and a little while later Geelong and Great Ocean Rd.
