Why Mobile Massage, In Your Own Airbnb Day Spa, Makes For The Ultimate Getaway Relaxation
"So good, that was so good."
Our client the other day at Ripple kept saying that phrase over and over like a mantra. Her and her husband were staying at an Airbnb on Tamborine Mountain for a week's getaway.
She had greeted us, stressed and a bit frazzled, and talking a million miles a minute.
Julie, the other therapist, and I just smiled at her.
"Please just give us two minutes to set up, you don't have to do anything, relax, and then we will do our very best to make you both happy."
2 hours later, after they had their side by side couples massage, they were both beaming, with that soft, fluffy energy that comes from someone who has had time just to zone out, chill and decompress.
The best part was they could remain in this little bubble of bliss, and did not have to get changed, drive anywhere or really wake up after.
"So good, that was so good" she said again, her face softened, shoulders unclenched.
Job done.

Below are some of our best tips on how to enjoy your massage and spa treatments in your Airbnb, a long list of different Airbnbs (they are at the bottom of this post) we have been to on Tamborine Mountain, Gold Coast and Hinterland, Brisbane, Scenic Rim and Northern NSW (and there are a lot!), plus lots of the most common questions we get asked.
Or if you like just contact Ali. I have been massaging in these regions for over 20 years now, so can help with accommodation recommendations, plus also have the insider local knowledge of the regions. So hit me up for ideas on places to eat, things to do and anything else you may need to know. Sometimes asking a local gives you ideas you won't find on the internet. You can contact me here

Why Our Clients Book A Massage At Their Airbnb
Running away to an airbnb for the weekend, or for a mid week getaway, has become hugely popular over the last few years. Most of our massages at Ripple now are in Airbnbs.
Often our clients aren't focused on luxury or a fancy "wellness experience."
Just less noise. Less pressure. Maybe a couple of mornings where nobody has to rush anywhere.
Sometimes it's the opportunity to disconnect from work that's most important. Or Mums away on a girls weekend, it's letting go of the mental load of parenting and having time to decompress. For couples, it might be the chance to reconnect without distractions. Or we do a lot of solo spa treatments for people who are looking for time away, sometimes to heal, sometimes to rejuvenate, sometimes because we all need some time alone.
But plenty of weekends away don’t actually feel relaxing once you’re in them. People leave work on Friday carrying stress with them, drive for hours, unpack, organise dinner, scroll for cafes, plan activities, answer messages, and suddenly it’s Sunday afternoon already.
That’s probably one of the reasons mobile massage and in-Airbnb day spa treatments have become so popular over the last few years. They fit naturally into the way people actually want to use holiday accommodation.
As a way to properly settle into the trip.
There’s a big difference between going somewhere for a massage and having the massage happen where you already feel comfortable. When you’re staying in an Airbnb or holiday house, you don’t have to get dressed afterward and head back into traffic. You’re already there. You can stay relaxed instead of immediately switching back into "doing mode".
The Relaxation Continues After The Massage
At Ripple, one thing we notice pretty quickly with our clients, is that after the massage they really don't want to do anything at all.
Some will head off straight after to have a siesta (massage is great at im proving your sleep patterns, more here), a once high energy girls weekend will morph into quiet chats while each woman has her pamper treatment, often they will be looking at places to deliver dinner so they don't have to go out again.
Having us come to you at your Airbnb, accommodation or home, means that after your massage, you don't have to do anything at all. And sometimes that is just as important as the massage itself.
People Are More Tired And Tense Than They Realise
Most guests arrive carrying more stress than they think they are.
As therapists we can tell straight away. When we massage, we not only feel the stress in your body and muscles, but we see it in how you interact with us, your body language, the shoulders gripped up near your ears. Here is some of what we can tell about your body without you saying a word.
Our job is to use all the tools and tricks we know to slow down your body and brain, switch off your sympathetic nervous system and put you in a deep state or relaxation.
What are the tools we use? Well it takes a lot of experience and training to gather them all so we can use the ones we need to give you the very best massage experience.
(I have 20 years of experience and extensive training in a wide range of massage styles which gives me a whole lot of tools to use. All of our therapists have years of experience and all are qualified to at least the Diploma of Remedial massage level.)
One I use a lot is to make sure, when you are lying front up on the massage table, that the lights are off or dim, and I place a soft hand towel tucked in well over your eyes so no light gets in. Why? Darkness stimulates the pineal gland that releases melatonin. This gets your relaxes your body, getting it ready for sleep.
This helps even more if I have done some heavy duty deep tissue massage on your back and shoulders. After intense trigger point therapy, as a therapist I want to then drop you into relaxation for when I do the more rhythmic reflexology on your feet.
It also helps if people feel like they are in a safe, familiar environment with no distractions. Us coming to your Airbnb really helps with this. Airbnbs are often in gorgeous quiet areas, surrounded by rainforest on Tamborine Mountain, or looking out to the ocean on the Gold Coast, or nestled in the rural countryside in the Scenic Rim, without another soul in sight.
And all of that makes our job as therapists that much easier. Honestly, sometimes the best part of the whole experience is lying on a really comfortable massage table, blends of aromatherapy oils designed to relax, quiet spa music in the background, and not having to go anywhere after.
The Best Weekends Usually Aren’t Overplanned
A lot of people accidentally turn holidays into productivity projects.
Breakfast booking. Markets. Winery. Lunch reservation. Sunset drinks. Another booking after that.
There’s nothing wrong with doing things, obviously, but people often leave themselves no space to actually slow down.
The weekends that feel best usually have gaps in them.
Slow mornings help. So does having nowhere to be for a few hours. A massage tends to work best when it’s part of that slower rhythm rather than squeezed between activities. It's even better when the day spa comes to you.
Couples massage inside accommodation has a different atmosphere compared with commercial spas.
Whilst the spa maybe quiet with a gentle energy, afterwards you are back in the car, walking through a shopping centre, or trying to find your way through an unfamiliar region, listening to Google Maps telling you where to go.
With massage at your Airbnb, you skip the "wake up" part, and can continue in the "I have just been massaged" soft energy bubble.
People aren’t walking back through shopping centres afterward or sitting in traffic trying to “hold onto” the relaxed feeling. They’re already back in their own space immediately after the treatment finishes.

Group Bookings Change the Energy of the Whole House
Hens parties, girls weekends and birthday weekends are interesting because massage changes the mood of the group pretty quickly.
Last week, Ripple massaged a large group of girls for a birthday weekend at an Airbnb on MacDonnell Rd, Mount Tamborine.
This is a house we go to often, that has stunning views over the western Scenic Rim from Tamborine Mountain.
The women on this group had high energy when we came in, scattered and overstimulated. But as I and two other therapists finished a pamper treatment for each woman, the whole place changed. It became quieter, small groups chatted in the lounge room, a few sat on the balcony watching the sunset in silence.
It becomes less about “pampering” and more about creating an atmosphere where people can actually settle.
That’s probably why mobile day spa experiences work so well for:
girls weekends
hens parties
mother-daughter getaways
wellness retreats
birthday weekends
Airbnb group stays
Plus so many Airbnb houses are just gorgeous! We have been to some really beautiful ones, with their own swimming pools, spas, saunas and views for forever. You also get to have the full spa experience without the extra cost of a bath house on top of your massage.

Top Tips For Booking A Relaxing Airbnb Weekend
Don’t overbook the trip
This is probably the biggest one.
A lot of weekends away accidentally become tightly packed itineraries:
breakfast booking
markets
winery
lunch reservation
shopping
sunset drinks
dinner booking
By Sunday afternoon people are exhausted from “relaxing.”
It’s fine to have plans, but leave empty space somewhere in the weekend. The nervous system needs unscheduled time to actually settle. If every hour is allocated, your brain never fully switches out of task mode.
The weekends that feel best usually have a few aimless hours in them.
Book the massage earlier in the stay
A lot of guests leave the massage until the final day because they think of it as the “ending” of the trip.
We have found it usually works better earlier.
When our clients have a massage on the first afternoon or first evening, the entire mood of the weekend changes afterward. Sleep improves faster. Shoulders drop earlier. People stop rushing around trying to fit everything in. Ripple operates 7 days a week, and its often easier to book us on a Friday than a weekend day.
Arrive earlier if you can
Driving into accommodation late at night tends to put people straight into survival mode:
unpacking quickly
grabbing takeaway
trying to settle into unfamiliar surroundings
going to sleep overstimulated
Even arriving two or three hours earlier changes the atmosphere completely.
You have time to unpack properly, sit outside, open a bottle of wine, wander around the property or just do nothing for a bit before the weekend really starts.
Open the windows and door and let the outside in
We love this about Airbnbs, especially those in the more remote areas of Tamborine Mountain, the Scenic Rim or even at Cabarita down by the beach. We love this about Airbnbs, especially those in the more remote areas of Tamborine Mountain, the Scenic Rim or even at Cabarita down by the beach. When you are somewhere beautiful and naturally remote, you can let in the natural sounds. A couple of months ago, we massaged at a home in Tamborine Mountain, surrounded by rainforest. It was raining, and the massage was done to the sounds of rain on the tin roof and a cacophony of frogs outside. Even though we bring relaxation music with us, we switched it off.
Another favourite it at Kingscliff, an airbnb right on the beach. We were on the second floor of this massive house, views over the ocean, and the sound of waves in the background. Perfect.
Don’t try too hard to create the “perfect” relaxing weekend
This sounds obvious, but it matters.
Some people put enormous pressure on holidays to fix how stressed they’ve been feeling. They try to engineer the perfect experience:
perfect restaurant
perfect wellness routine
perfect photos
perfect itinerary
Then the whole thing becomes another performance. The best weekends away usually feel slightly unplanned. A little messy sometimes. Slow in places. Quiet in places. Not every moment needs to be productive or memorable.
And for your massage, really please don't worry before we arrive. We will arrange everything when we get there (even the furniture), organise the group if there are a few of you, find power points for our hot towel steamers, the lot. Ripple has been doing this a long time, and we have massaged in many different Airbnbs and places. So just relax and let us do what we do best. Our intention is solely to make you all happy and give you the massage you would like. All you really need to do is book us, and leave the rest to us.
It is really good too, if you leave control of your booking to us. Ali will ask you questions on booking to do all the basic organising, plus anything really special we need to know (like that intense allergy to nuts that you have). And when we come to your turn, each Ripple therapist will consult with you. to find out what you would like from your treatment, consent of areas of body to massage, and to let you know what will happen during your massage. It is best if you just let us do our thing and let us organise the room. If we need anything we will ask.
Put phones away for a while afterward
People often don’t realise how much mental noise their phone creates until they stop looking at it for an hour. We notice this when we massage. The moment somebody jumps straight back into emails, social media or work messages, you can almost see the nervous system switch back on again. A lot of what we do at Ripple is not just unlocking muscle knots, but on dropping you down into a place where you feel a little bit spaced out (massage is sensational for increasing dopamine and serotonin into your system) Allow yourself to stay in that place for as long as you can. Switching on your phone will kick you out of it instantly.
Keep one part of the weekend completely unstructured
This is probably the most underrated advice.Leave one block of time with absolutely nothing planned.
No bookings. No timeline. No “we should probably go do something.”
People often feel uncomfortable with unstructured time at first because they’re so used to filling every gap. But that’s usually when the best parts of the weekend happen naturally. You end up sitting outside longer than expected. Someone falls asleep. Conversations happen properly. The whole pace changes.
That’s the feeling most people are actually chasing when they book a weekend away.
Look at the reviews
And by that we mean genuine reviews. There are some spas that will offer you a discount on your next massage in return for a 5 star review.
At Ripple we aren't like that. All of our reviews are genuine from genuine clients. We do honestly just want to make everyone happy and try to go above and beyond with our treatments.

Tamborine Mountain Airbnb For Your Massage And Day Spa Treatments
57 Long Road Tamborine Mountain
Ripple has been here quite a few times over the years, a really cute 3 bedroom cottage. Last time we were there was for a retreat for 3 working women. We did 3 of the one hour pamper packages and they loved them.
33 Main St, Tamborine Mountain
Right in the heart of town in Main St Tamborine Mountain, this is an easy walk to some of the best restaurants and cafes on the mountain (Tamborine Mountain Pizza, St Marthe, Trattoria Mk III, Providore, Baileys Irish Pub, Mountain Brew, Spice of Life ... the list goes on. Main St is where a lot of locals go to eat and hang out). This Airbnb is gorgeous and really spacious. We were there 4 months ago for a birthday weekend for a group of women who got together each year.
24 Eagle Heights Rd, Tamborine Mountain
A cute little cottage near the rainforest. Perfect for a couples getaway and you can still walk to Main St or Gallery Walk (the two main areas of town for eating out) from here. Ripple has done a number of couples massages here over the years.
69 Long Road Tamborine Mountain
We were here last year doing a couples massage, it's quiet and down the end of a long driveway, surrounded by rainforest. Lovely traditional English cottage.
2 Witches Chase, Tamborine Mountain
Entire chalet up on a little lane off Beacon Rd, close to the centre of town, quiet with western views to the ranges.
7 Rainer Drive, Tamborine Mountain
Ripple has done lots of bookings here. The first one we did was for a group of sisters and their Mum who come away annually to Tamborine Mountain for a few days to catch up and have some mother/daughter/sister time. They loved Ripple so much they now book us every year, each time at a different Airbnb. This cottage is cute, quiet and close to Gallery Walk, the main tourist area of the mountain.
56 to 58 Freemont Drive Tamborine Mountain
One of the quirkiest Airbnbs we have massaged at. We did a couples massage here a while back, and our guests just loved this cottage. He was a woodworker and loved the spells that had been carved into the staircase. Beautiful place, quiet part of town, it is even more unique on the inside than it is from the outside.
311 Long Road, Tamborine Mountain Qld
What is not to love about this house. Featured on Grand Designs (Season 8, Episode 9), we did a hens party for 13 girls here on the closed in deck. Stunning place on Long Road, around 10 mins from Gallery Walk. If you have a large group booking and want somewhere modern and set in a rural setting this is a great option. There are plenty of areas where we can set up your day spa, but the hens party chose the deck as it was a warm day. Picture below of one of our massage tables for the group booking, looking out over the lawns.

Another favourite, this one has views to the Gold Coast, and is in a quiet part of the mountain. Large fireplace and lounge room make the perfect areas to set up your day spa. Ripple has done girls getaway massages here, our last booking here was for a couples massage with two therapists.
A cosy cottage, right near Gallery Walk. Fabulous old fashioned bath tub, plus they supply firewood for the fireplace :) We have massaged here with two massage tables, but to be honest, its a really tight fit and not super comfortable. So if you would like a couples massage here, we recommend you do them one after the other. We have a couple that stays here every year and books in with Ripple for the last day of their stay, and just love this place (and their massages!).
Cute cottages on the south end of the mountain set within a flower farm. Perfect for couples massages, or if you are looking for a solo time away, and would like to rejuvenate with one of our day spa packages.
Stunning accommodation with some unusual paintings. Rachel and I did two couples massages here. Located next to a small shopping centre and also a five minute walk to the tourist area of gallery walk.
Lovely cottage with views over the Scenic Rim. I did a pregnancy massage here early this year on the deck. Room only for one massage table, but lovely place to relax.
Beautiful Queenslander
24 Bartle Road, Tamborine Mountain
Located just near the showgrounds, this old queenslander sits under tall gums. Couples massages here are popular and Ripple usually brings two therapists for side by side massages as the space is large enough to easily accommodate the two. Right next to the Tamborine Mountain Country Markets that are held every second Sunday, so you can walk there easily and avoid all the parking hassles. St Bernards pub isn't far away, and also the coffee plantation.
As the address suggests, right opposite the local state school. Next to parkland, with a small stream at the back of the property. Ali did pamper packages here for two sisters not so long ago, quite a large space.
Cosy cabin, perfect for weekend getaway. Rachel did two massages here, back to back last September.

Cute cottage in the northern part of the mountain, with bedrooms upstairs. The stairs are too narrow for us to get massage tables up to, but there is a perfect spot for us to set up downstairs.
Nestled in a rural setting, but still close to Main St and Gallery Walk, this cottage is at the front of the property. Lots of room for group bookings, couples massages with two therapists, girls getaways, mother daughter retreats and lots more. Lovely place to massage in a quiet setting.
One of our favourites and we have done many group massage bookings here. Lots of different places where you can have your massage, quiet street and views down to the coast.
Cottage Near Gallery Walk
23 Wongawallan Rd Tamborine Mountain
Cute small cottage over two levels. The stairs here are too narrow for us to get our massage tables up there, but there is heaps of room in the loungeroom. Just around the corner of gallery walk and the cafes, shops and distillery.
Airbnb Home Near Curtis Falls Rainforest
15 Wasatch Court Tamborine Mountain
Beautifully renovated home, perfect for an in home massage. Right near Curtis Falls rainforest, one of the most popular rainforest walks on the mountain, with the iconic waterfall. Cottage can fit two therapists, so can accommodate group day spa bookings, couples, or just you.
Rest Of Scenic Rim Airbnb And Gold Coast Hinterland
A relaxing Beechmont off grid tiny house, set on a dairy farm. Secluded. Its small so we can fit one table for your massage.
Gorgeous house, big expansive views and a pool. We have done a lot of girls weekend spa days here and it's a beautiful place to massage. The driveway is a bit hairy, but once at the top it is gorgeous. Great for large groups
Whole house tucked away on the hillside, has a large pool. They do have a massage chair there but if you would like a hands on massage, we do come out.
We love coming up to Beechmont and this is one of our faves. Big clawfoot bathtub if you would like a soak after your massage, and a private view for, well ... acres.
Tucked in next to Binna Burra Lodges, this one has the same views forever, with the upside of being your own place. We have massaged groups of friends and couples here. In winter curl up around the floating fireplace after your in house treatments.
Tucked up in the Gold Coast Hinterland, these cottages have views to the Gold Coast. Perfect for one or a couple.
Northern NSW
Wow, huge place, just by the beach, super deluxe. We did a wellness retreat here for a group of friends who get together once a year. Deluxe 2 hour spa package each. They have been booking us for years, each year a different place, and this one was jaw dropping.
